Acacia's Ceramics Gallery
Semester 2 final platter
The construction process for this piece was quite simple, I just rolled out a ig slab and created a slump mold with it. The glazing is where it got complicated. It is inspired my a Mexican style art called Talavera, that originated in Spain. It is very detailed, and it was hard to build up enough glaze on such an intricate design. I used under glaze, and then a layer of clear glaze to finish it off.
Overall, I really like how this piece turned out. I would have loved for the glaze to turn out slightly more opaque, because it is a big splotchy and thin in some places, but overall it looks pretty good. Also, there is one part where I forgot to add a black outline likeI did for the rest of it, which bothers me, but its really not that noticible. I think if I were to make it again, I would just fix that and add another layer of underglaze. However, I am very proud of it, and I am excited to give it to my dad as his fathers day present.
