Unit 4 Projects
Lidded Box
The construction process of this piece was very tedious. I first build to box out of slabs, and then folded a very long skinny slab into the ribbon on the edge. Sculpting each pearl took a while, and making the bows was difficult because they are very small and thin. I used one of the mini extruders to make the ribbons that drape on the sides of the box.
I am very proud of how this piece turned out. The only thing that didn't go according to plan, was that someone else's piece exploded in the kiln and nocked off the ribbons on the back of the box. This was pretty sad, but other than that I love how the colors turned out, and how all the little embellishments turned out.
Series of Four
For my series of four, I was planning on making four bowls, and painting each one like a different fruit. I was going to do a grapefruit, a lime, a watermelon, and a kiwi. Unfortunatly, two of the bowls exploded in the kiln in the same accident that exploded part of my box. I didn't have time to make the other two bowls again, so I decided to scrap them.
Poem Response
The construction for this piece was fairly simple, except for the little person. The moon and base I cut out of a slab, and the hook I made out of a coil. The person was difficult to make, because it is so small, but I think it turned out pretty cute.
The only critique I would give this piece, is I think I could have been more throughout with my glaze. Also, these was a mishap with firing, the the person got attached to the wrong side of the moon. The original plan was to hang the moon from the hook, but now that the person is on the wrong side, i'm still deciding what to do with it.
Master Slab/Handle
The construction of this piece was more challenging than anticipated. I first attempted to attach the embelishments onto a slab, and then fold the slab into the circular mug shape. The slab ended up cracking where I had attached things, so I had to restart. The next time, I build the mug first, and attached the embelishments after. I then made the handle, fired it, and glazed it with mayco glaze. I also had yo glaze it twice because the
