Senior Capstone
Introduction

I have chosen to focus my senior capstone project on dance, an art form to which I have dedicated countless hours and developed a deep passion for. I started dancing at the age of five and joined the Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center’s (TWDCC) youth company in my freshman year. Since then, my love for dance has only grown, and I have spent well over 100 hours developing my skills. Dance has taught me valuable life skills and has shaped the person I am today. Although I do not plan to major in dance, I intend to continue dancing and possibly hope to minor in it. While dance may not directly relate to my major, marine biology, I believe it has equipped me with essential tools for success in all areas of my life.

Dance has taught me the importance of commitment and being part of a team. I currently dance for nine hours each week, and as a company member, attendance and punctuality are crucial. This level of commitment has prepared me for demanding schedules I will encounter in college, regardless of my major. Dance has instilled in me the values of dedication and perseverance, even when challenges arise. Additionally, being part of the company has taught me how to collaborate effectively with others. A group dance won’t succeed unless everyone is contributing and working together, and this principle extends to many other areas of life, including group projects in college and most professions. Overall, dance has not only prepared me for the future but has also shaped me into the person I am today.
